Poet’s Choice: 1st $100; 2nd $50; 3rd $30; 4th $20; HMs.

Poems must be your original, unpublished work. None may be a prior cash winner in any contest.

  • You may enter one poem in each category, with no duplication; a different poem in each.
  • Simultaneous submissions are acceptable; please note that entry fees are non-refundable, and the OPA is to be notified as soon as possible if your poem is accepted elsewhere. OPA has first publication rights.
  • Type or computer-generate poems on copier weight, 8½ x 11 white paper; 10 or 12 font size, no fancy fonts, black ink only, single-sided only with no photos or decorations. If a second page is required, staple the pages together. Do not use paperclips or bindings.
  • Copies: Send two copies of each poem. On the 1st copy, in the upper right corner, type: category, line count, name, address, phone number, and email. On the 2nd copy, in the upper right corner, type:category and line count only.
  • New Poets category send two copies: One copy with category, identification, line count and, type and sign this statement: I have never won a cash prize for a poem.” (This applies to all contests, not just those sponsored by OSPA.). On the 2nd copy, in the upper right corner, type:category and line count only.
  • Members Only category: Make certain your dues are current.
  • Cost: Members pay a flat rate submission fee of $5 per contest. Non-members pay $4 per poem. If you join at the time you enter, you are eligible for Members rates.
  • If you join when you enter, you are eligible for member rates. Dues must be mailed separately (see below).
  • Mail all entries with proper postage. Please no registered or certified mail. Keep copies; entries will not be returned.
  • If you'd like acknowledgment that your entry arrived, provide a note and an email address or a self addressed stamped postcard.
  • To receive a list of winners, enclose a #10 self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) or provide an email address for notification.
  • Postmarked Deadline: March 1, 2012.
  • Winners will be notified prior to the Spring Conference in April. Those unable to attend will receive prizes by mail. First, Second and Third Place Winning Poems may be published in Verseweavers, the Oregon Poetry Association's anthology. Honorable Mentions will be awarded by certificates s merited. All rights revert to author, after publication.
  • Please read these rules carefully.
