Ongoing Call for Book Donations to Oregon Poetry Collection

E-mail Print PDF

Oregon State Poetry Association and the Oregon State Library are still seeking donations of books for the Oregon Poetry Collection, an inclusive collection of books by Oregon poets, housed at the State Library and open to the public. Part of the collection will circulate, and part--including signed first editions, rare books, and second copies of circulating books--will be non-circulating for the purpose of long-term preservation.

Books by Oregon poets (i.e., poets resident, born, schooled, or raised in Oregon) should be shipped or brought to the following address:

Oregon Poetry Collection
Oregon State Library
250 Winter St. NE
Salem, OR 97301-3950

Where possible, two copies of a given book would be welcome--one copy for the circulating part of the collection, the other for long-term preservation in the non-circulating part.

Before donating books, you may want to make sure that the State Library does not have copies of them already. The catalogue may be accessed via the State Library website, www.oregon.gov/OSL. In the case of duplicates, the State Library will offer the book to other libraries in the Oregon system. If you would prefer to have any book that turns out to be a duplicate returned to you, please request this in a cover letter.

OSPA's Mission:
To bring together, and nurture, the widest possible community of Oregon poets; to help Oregon poets, young and old, develop their talents and skills; to stimulate, at the grassroots level, a statewide appreciation of poetry; and, to raise public awareness of Oregon poets, past and present.

Newsflash

Salem group forming - meeting 9/11

AN INVITATION TO SALEM AREA POETS:

An exploratory meeting for organizing a support group for poets is planned for Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oregon State Library.

Normally closed on Saturdays, the State Library has graciously opened its door (the one on Winter Street near the book drop) and given us the use of the beautiful Poet Laureate's Reading Room on the 2nd floor.  That in itself would make this meeting worthwhile.

Sponsored by the Oregon State Poetry Association with the help of Eleanor Berry and me, Virginia Corrie-Cozart, this would become one of OSPA's satellite units with the purpose of nurturing our community of poets in whatever way we would see fit.

Come share your vision and bring others who might be interested.
